Women's Hockey: Cadets march past Panthers, 6-1

Box Score

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University women's ice hockey team defeated Plymouth State 6-1 on Friday night at Kreitzberg Arena in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.

Junior Julia Masotta (Tewksbury, Mass.) scored a goal and tallied two assists for her second three-point night of the season to lead the Cadets' offense.

Junior Mikah Baptiste (Ottawa, Ontario) had two goals, while classmate Ann-Frederique Guay (St. Lambert-de-Lauzon, Quebec) had a goal and an assist as Norwich (3-1-0, 3-0-0 NEHC) stretched its NEHC-unbeaten streak to 53 straight games.

Sophomore Aimee Headland (Nottingham, United Kingdom) and freshman Jillian Jackson (Fredericton, New Brunswick) each scored goals as well for the Cadets.

Jackson opened the scoring with a power-play goal at the 5:05 mark of the first period off assists from Taylor Girouard (Burlington, Mass.) and Taylor Tom (Kenora, Ontario).

Baptiste scored her first of the night with an unassisted goal after corralling a puck along the boards, skating around the outskirts of the Plymouth State defense, cutting down through the top of the slot and then rifling a wrist shot past Plymouth States Amelia Julian for a 2-0 Norwich lead.

Plymouth State (2-2-1) cut into the Norwich lead at the 10:53 mark with Carsen Moffett one-timing a pass from behind the net by Taylor Thomas past NU goalie Alexa Berg (West Fargo, N.D.). Norwich turned the puck over behind its net with Thomas stripping the puck away and then fired a perfect pass to Moffett who gave Berg no chance with the quick release for the goal.

Masotta gave Norwich a two-goal lead again just 1:30 later, sliding a puck past Julian that caught a Plymouth defenders skate and slowed down as Julian's pad couldn't extend back in time to block it. Guay and Molly Flanagan (Lutz, Fla.) picked up the assists.

Headland scored unassisted after she intercepted a pass in the Plymouth State defensive zone and then fired a wrist shot from the top of the left faceoff circle past Julian to make it 4-1.

Baptiste and Guay added third-period tallies as Norwich pulled away for the comfortable win.

Norwich led shots 43-13 and finished 1-for-2 on the power play. The Cadets will host Castleton at 3 p.m. tomorrow in Kreitzberg Arena.
