Box Score 2 NORTHFIELD, Vt.- The Norwich University women's volleyball team split their games Saturday in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action, falling to Rivier 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-20) before sweeping Saint Joseph's College (Maine), for a 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-15) victory.
Norwich moves to 7-6 on the season after Saturday, and picked up their first win in the GNAC in the process, moving their record to 1-4 in conference play.
In game one Kathryn Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) led the way with eight kills, five digs, and a solo block. Ana Lopez (Laredo, Texas) added six kills and a block assist, while Julia Schroeder (Victorville, Calif.) hit .235 with five kills and six digs. Sarah Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) picked up 19 assists in the loss.
The Cadets were able to battle Rivier to a 16-16 tie before scoring two points to take a 18-16 lead late in the first set. The Raiders were able to score once, before the Cadets added their 19th point of the set. Rivier responded by rattling off eight consecutive points to close out the first.
Norwich again held the lead the second set holding a 15-12 advantage before another eight-point run put the Raiders ahead for good.
In game two against Saint Joseph's (Maine) Kathryn Farnum dished out 14 kills to end her day with 22 total. The Cadets also had three players end with double digit digs in the contest with Laura Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) and Olivia Brown (Rye, N.H.) each earning 12, and Schroeder adding another 10.
Kathryn Farnum and Lopez both had hitting percentages over .400 in the match, with Kathryn Farnum hitting .419, and Lopez hitting a game-high .455. Sarah Farnum once again tallied double digit assists with 31 in the match.
In the first set against the Monks, Norwich went on an 11-point run to take a commanding 22-8 lead on their way to close out the Monks 25-13.
In the second set Norwich used a five-point run and a closing out seven-point run, including four kills from Kathryn Farnum to close out Saint Joseph's (Maine), before closing them out in the third set 25-15.
Norwich will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 6 p.m. in Andrews Hall against Lasell in another GNAC contest. On Saturday, Oct. 16 the Cadets will travel to Albertus Magnus for another conference tri-match against Dean and the Falcons.
