Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. - Senior defender Sara Marcotte (Enfield, Conn.) scored her first collegiate goal, but the Norwich University women's soccer team fell 3-1 to Colby-Sawyer College on Wednesday in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.
Marcotte headed home a pretty corner kick from the right by Sarah Rucci (West Boylston, Mass.) at the 32:32 mark of the first half for her first collegiate tally. Marcotte ran in from the far side of the box, cutting around a Colby-Sawyer defender and was first to the ball with a header near the top of the six-yard box to cut Colby-Sawyer's lead to 3-1.
However, that's as close as Norwich (2-7, 1-7 GNAC) would get as Colby-Sawyer raced out to a three-goal lead in the opening 30 minutes with goals from Abby Hamelin, Brenna Humphrey and Halle Pletzer. Humphrey and Pletzer's goals came just 31 seconds apart at the 29:33 and 30:04 mark of the opening frame.
Colby-Sawyer (3-5, 3-3 GNAC) avenged Norwich's win during the 2019 season on Sabine Field. Both teams finished as part of a five-way for sixth place in the 2019 GNAC standings.
Senior Kim Watt (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) made the start, making seven saves on 10 shots on goal. Freshman Rebecca Karis (Fayetteville, N.C.) stopped all three shots she faced in the second half.
Norwich returns home to Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium on Saturday at 5 p.m. when it hosts Univ. of St. Joseph (Conn.).
