Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt.- The Norwich University volleyball team took the first two sets of the match, before Elms brought the match to a decisive fifth set, where the Cadets came out victorious, 3-2, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Wednesday night in Andrews Hall.
Two Cadets earned double-doubles in the match with Kathryn Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) earning 29 kills and 14 digs, while Sarah Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) compiled a stat line of 49 assists and 12 digs. Addison Hall (Apple Valley, Calif.) also added double digit kills in the contest, with 11.
As a team defensively, the Cadets had 90 digs to pair with five total blocks in the match, 24 from Laura Farnum (North Andover, Mass.). Leah Mathewson (North Chelmsford, Mass.) was the only Cadet to record a solo block while also assisting on two blocks.
In the first set, Elms had a 26-25 advantage as the set extended into extra points but Norwich was able to string together three straight points, bookended by a pair Kathryn Farnum kills. The Cadets took the set 28-26.
After Norwich won second set 25-15, Elms was able to hold off a late scoring surge by Norwich to win 25-19 in the third.
Norwich held a 22-17 advantage in the fourth, before a string of seven straight points put the Blazers ahead 24-22. After Kathryn Farnum earned a kill, Alanys Cruz Diaz closed the set with a kill of her own.
Norwich ran out to a 9-1 lead in the final set of the match, closing out the match with a kill by Julia Schroeder (Victorville, Calif.) closing the match with a 15-7 victory in the final frame.
Elms moves to 14-7 on the year and 6-3 in conference play this season.
Norwich (11-6, 5-4 GNAC) will face Emmanuel on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 12 p.m. in Andrews Hall.
