Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt.- The Norwich University women's volleyball team faced off against Lasell in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match on Wednesday evening coming out with a 3-0 (25-18, 27-25, 25-18) victory.
Norwich (8-6, 2-4 GNAC) was led by Ana Lopez (Laredo, Texas) and Kathryn Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) who each had seven kills in the match, while Sarah Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) collected 22 assists bringing her to a conference leading 9.16 assists per set. Julia Schroeder (Victorville, Calif.) also had three service aces in the match.
Defensively Norwich recorded three blocks with Addison Hall (Apple Valley, Calif.) and Lopez being in on two each, and Laura Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) recorded nine digs.
Lasell (12-6, 4-2 GNAC) was led by Sabine Milton who recorded a game-high 14 kills, and four block assists.
Norwich got off to a hot start winning the first five points of the match, before a kill by Tori Scambray got the Lasers onto the scoreboard. Lasell and Norwich would battle to a 21-17 lead for the Cadets after Lasell scored three-straight. Norwich finally downed Lasell in the first set by winning four of the next five points.
Again, Norwich jumped out to a 7-3 lead on the Lasers, before Lasell grabbed five of the next six points to tie the Cadet s at 8 apiece. After retaking the lead later in the third set Lasell was unable to hang on as the Cadets scored six of the final seven points of the set for the 27-25 victory.
The Cadets and the Lasers again battled back in forth in the third set, before Norwich outscored the Lasers in the 6-2 in the final eight points of the match.
Norwich will continue conference action when they travel to New Haven, Conn. for a GNAC tri-match against Dean and Albertus Magnus. They will play in Andrews hall on Wednesday, Oct. 20 against Elms.
