FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Norwich University baseball team competed against the University of Northwestern (Minn.) in a doubleheader on Thursday.

The Cadets and the Eagles split the twinbill with Northwestern claiming game one 5-1 and Norwich taking game two 3-1.

In game one, the Eagles took an early 5-0 lead with five runs plated in the bottom of the fifth. Norwich scored its only run of the game in the top of the third inning as freshman left fielder Jeremy Carrick (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) delivered an RBI single through the left side of the infield that plated junior center fielder Koby Foster (Estill Springs, Tenn.) for a 5-1 score.

The Eagles added one run in the bottom of the fourth and another in the fifth for the 7-1 final. Sophomore John Grasso (Haddam, Conn.) took the loss for the Cadets, allowing seven runs (just two earned) on nine hits and two walks. He struck out eight batters and falls to 0-2 on the season.

The Cadets got on the board first in game two on an RBI single by junior shortstop Jacob Parizo and a bases-loaded hit by pitch drawn by Carrick for a 2-0 lead after two innings.

NU plated an additional run in the home half of the third inning on another bases-loaded hit by pitch, this time drawn by Foster for the 3-0 lead. The Eagles plated one run in the top of the fourth before both teams went scoreless for the remainder of the game.

Senior CJ Davis (South Berwick, Maine) picked up the win for the Cadets after tossing an absolute gem. He allowed one run (unearned) on just four hits and two walks. He fanned two batters and improves to 1-2 on the season. 

Norwich now stands at 6-6 while Northwestern moves to 2-8.
