Baseball: Gettysburg Sweeps Norwich in Spring Break Finale

VERO BEACH, Fla. – The Norwich University baseball team wrapped up its Spring Break slate of games with a doubleheader against Gettysburg College on Friday.

The Bullets swept the Cadets with a 13-2 win in game one and a 5-2 victory in game two.

In game one, the Bullets struck first with two runs in the bottom of the first.  They added one in the second before the Cadets began to rally in the top of the third inning.

Senior center fielder Kevin Lynch (Randolph, Mass.) got NU on the board with two-out a triple to center that scored sophomore left fielder Koby Foster (Estill Springs, Tenn.) to make it 3-1. Junior second baseman Chris Dayos (Temecula, Calif.) then delivered a single to short that plated Lynch and made it 3-2.

Gettysburg got three runs back in the bottom of the inning and then rallied for seven runs in the fifth for the 13-2 final.

Junior third baseman Brandon Profita (New Milford, Conn.) registered the other Cadet hit in the loss.

Senior Jake Ryan (Arlington, Mass.) took the loss to fall to 0-2 on the season. He allowed five earned runs on seven hits in two innings of work. He struck out one batter.

Junior CJ Davis (South Berwick, Maine), senior Peter Madsen (New Boston, N.H.) and freshman Derek Kroese (Lakeville, Mass.) all pitched in relief for the Cadets.

In game two, the Cadets nabbed the game's first run in the bottom of the third inning on a sacrifice fly by junior designated hitter Brady Doherty (Sandwich, Mass.) for a 1-0 lead.

The Bullets tied the game 1-1 in the top of the fourth and took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth.

Norwich knotted the game 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning as sophomore pinch0hitter Jacob Parizo (Groton, Conn.) reached on a throwing error that allowed sophomore right fielder Nate Gehringer (Northampton, Penn.) to score from third.

Gettysburg rallied in the top of the seventh for three runs to take the 5-2 lead that would stand up for the final.

Freshman Tanner Raymond (Southbury, Conn.) started the game for the Cadets. Despite not factoring into the decision he tossed four quality innings, allowing one earned run on five hits and two walks. He fanned one batter.

Sophomore Jake Godbee (Ormond Beach, Fla.) took the loss in relief, allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits and to walks. He falls to 0-1 on the season.

The Cadets depart Florida with a 2-8 overall record and are next in action on Saturday, March 23rd at Suffolk University. The GNAC twinbill is set for 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
