Women's Hockey: Norwich sails past Salem State, 8-0

SALEM, Mass. - The Norwich University women's ice hockey team cruised to an 8-0 victory over Salem State on Friday night in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.

Junior Alyssa Hulst (Scarborough, Maine) had a goal and two assists to lead the Norwich offense on the day as the Cadets rolled to their 11th straight league victory and 29th overall.

Junior Amanda Conway (Methuen, Mass.) and senior Adrieana Rossini (Malden, Mass.) each scored twice, while Carly Menges (Novelty, Ohio) and Jessica Piracini (Arlington, Mass.) each had a goal and an assist to round out Norwich's offensive leaders on the night.  

Freshman Kate Winstanley (Lansdale, Pa.) stopped all eight shots she faced to pick up her first collegiate shutout.

Norwich opened the scoring at the 9:36 mark of the first period with Rossini scoring an unassisted shorthanded goal. Piracini increased the lead to 2-0 at the 13:14 mark off assists from Sophie McGovern (Hermantown, Minn.) and Bailey Park (Kimberley, British Columbia).

Hulst scored her fifth goal of the season just 1:28 later on assists from Menges and Maddi Blauth (Pennington, N.J.).

Rossini capped the first period scoring with a power-play tally off assists from Piracini and Hulst. 

Menges scored her first of the season at the 7:16 mark of the second period off an assist from Kirsten Watts (Chugiak, Alaska).

Samantha Benoit (Bow, N.H) scored her fourth goal of the season at the 17:33 mark of the second period off assists from Bryn Labbe (Calgary, Alberta) and Robyn Foley (Goulds, Newfoundland and Labrador).

Conway scored twice in the third period to cap the scoring with her 19th and 20th goals of the year. Hulst picked up an assist on the first one.

Norwich (13-3-1, 11-0-0 NEHC) returns home to Kreitzberg Arena to host Trinity (Conn.) at 1 p.m. on Senior Day. The Cadets will honor their seven-player senior class prior to the game with a special pre-game ceremony. NU then closes out the home portion of its 2018-19 schedule on Tuesday, Jan. 22 when it hosts Amherst College in non-conference action.
