NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University volleyball team fell to cross-state rival Plattsburgh State on Friday night, dropping the match by a 3-1 final score in Andrews Hall Gymnasium.

The Cardinals came out on fire, jumping out to a quick 16-5 lead in set number one. Norwich rallied with an 8-0 run late to tie things up at 20-20, but Plattsburgh finished it with five straight points to seal up the first set win.

Norwich needed a win in set two and found themselves leading by a slim 23-22 margin late. Julia Schroeder (Victorville, Calif.) and Addison Hall (Apple Valley, Calif.) combined for back-to-back kills though, and Norwich sealed up the 25-22 set win. 

The pivotal third set was all Plattsburgh as Norwich struggled to get things going offensively, recording just nine kills against 11 errors. The Cardinals took the set 25-18 before promptly taking care of business in the fourth set with a 25-21 win and taking the match by a 3-1 final score. 

Kathryn Farnum (North Attleboro, Mass.) led the way for the Cadets with 14 kills (a new career-high) and 17 digs, while Julia Schroeder put up 10 kills of her own. Brianna Dawson (Katonah, N.Y.) had a team-high 22 digs and freshman Addison Hall filled the stat sheet with six kills, three digs, and three assisted blocks. 

Megan Hyde led the Cardinals with 14 kills, two services aces, and 15 digs. Michelle Simmons picked up seven kills on a .333 attacking percentage along with three solo blocks. Maddy Zophy had a game-high 24 digs.  

The loss drops the Cadets down to 5-7 on the young season, while the Cardinals improve to 5-11.

Next up for Norwich is a road trip to Salem State on October 4th to take on the Vikings at 6:30 PM.
