Box Score 2 Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. – The Norwich University baseball team traveled to take on Bard College in a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.
The Raptors swept the Cadets with a close 1-0 win in game one and an 8-1 win in game two.
In game one, Bard got on the board early, with the contest's lone run coming in the bottom of the first inning. Norwich starter junior Jake Ryan (Arlington, Mass.) tossed a career game, allowing just one earned run on three hits. He struck out four batters and surrendered one walk to fall to 0-4 on the season.
Freshman shortstop Jacob Parizo (Groton, Conn.) led the Cadets offensively with three singles in three plate appearances.
In game two Bard nabbed another first inning run for the early 1-0 lead before the Cadet offense plated its first run of the day as sophomore designated hitter Andrew Fisher (Tewksbury, Mass.) scored on a wild pitch to tie the game.
The Raptors offense then took over with a run in the bottom of the third and two runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
Senior Ed Gates (Griswold, Conn.) took the loss for Norwich after allowing six earned runs on 10 hits over four and two-third innings to fall to 0-3 on the year.
Parizo, junior second baseman Mike Lesco (Somers, Conn.), freshman right fielder Nate Gehringer (Northampton, Penn.) and junior first baseman Jacob Barlow (Newburyport, Mass.) all collected a hit in the loss.
The Cadets fall to 0-14 on the season and will travel to take on Colby-Sawyer College on Wednesday, April 4th. That nine-inning contest is slated for 3:30 p.m.
