Box Score STANDISH, Maine - The Norwich University women's basketball team wrapped up regular season play on Saturday afternoon against Saint Joseph's College of Maine, dropping the conference matchup to the Monks by an 80-48 final score.
Coming into the game on an incredible 22-game winning streak, the Monks hardly let the Cadets get on the court before they had opened up a 10-0 lead over Norwich. SJC racked up 30 points in the first quarter, 15 of which came from reigning GNAC Player of the Year Kelsi McNamara. Although the Cadets put on better showings in the remaining quarters, they simply could not catch up to the Monks and fell by the 80-48 final score.
Vanessa Fleury (Lebanon, N.H.) paced the Cadets offensively with 14 points and 6 rebounds, while Shyann Josler (Thetford Center, Vt.) collected 10 points and 5 rebounds. The Monks outpaced Norwich in almost every statistical category, most notably points in the paint (46-16) and points off of turnovers (23-5).
The loss gives Norwich a final record of 10-15 for the 2017-18 regular season and a 7-9 mark within the GNAC. Postseason play will begin next Tuesday, as the Cadets will most likely remain the #7 seed and have to travel to #2 Emmanuel College to try and keep their season alive.
