Men's Hockey: Norwich shuts out Johnson & Wales, 1-0

Box Score

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Junior Jordan Hall (Anchorage, Alaska) of the Norwich University men's ice hockey team scored at the 9:23 mark of the first period to provide the only goal in a 1-0 victory for the Cadets over Johnson & Wales University in the first-ever meeting between the two schools in men's ice hockey.

Hall ripped a wrist shot over the glove of Johnson & Wales' goalie Tyler Ellor to give the Cadets the only offense they would need.

Freshman Adam Mercer (Belchertown, Mass.) and the Norwich defense finished the rest of the game making 12 saves to pick up his first collegiate shutout.

Hall took a drop pass Brett Ouderkirk (Monkland, Ontario) and sizzled a hard wrist shot over the glove and under the cross bar for his first goal of the season. Coby Downs (Montclair, Calif.) picked up the second assist on the goal.

Norwich outshot Johnson & Wales 44-12 for the game, but they couldn't get anything else past Ellor who was superb in net for the Wildcats with 43 saves.

The Cadets hit a few posts and also had a 1:58 5-on-3 power play that they were unable to cash in on early in the second period.

Norwich (5-2-1, 3-2-0 NEHC) won its third straight game and will now host Suffolk University at 4 p.m. in Kreitzberg Arena for another NEHC matchup.
