Box Score

RUTLAND, Vt. - The Norwich University women's ice hockey team swept the season series from Castleton University with a dominant 8-1 victory on Tuesday night at Spartan Arena in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.

Norwich (17-1-2, 10-0-0 NEHC) got a goal and two assists each from Adrieana Rossini (Malden, Mass.) and Sophie McGovern (Hermantown, Minn.) to lead the Cadets' offense on the day.

Sarah Schwenzfeier (Hingham, Mass.), Bryn Labbe (Calgary, Alberta), Kim Tiberi (Raleigh, N.C.) and Amanda Conway (Methuen, Mass.) each tallied a goal and an assist as well for Norwich.

Norwich scored three goals in the first period, all coming from defensemen to take a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes. Kirsten Watts (Anchorage, Alaska) and Robyn Foley (Goulds, Newfoundland and Labrador) scored at the 12:54 and 15:53 mark of the first period with unassisted goals each. Tiberi scored her third goal of the season off assists from Rossini and Alyssa Hulst (Scarborough, Maine) to cap the first period scoring at the 19:05 mark.

Neither team scored again until Castleton (8-11-1, 4-4-1 NEHC) got its first goal of the game with Aimee Brand scoring her 10th goal of the season to cut the lead to 3-1 just 47 seconds into the third period.

Norwich scored five straight from there with Labbe and Schwenzfeier scoring power play goals just 1:03 apart for their 10th goals of the season.

Conway made it 6-1 at the 6:57 mark of the third period with her 20th goal of the season off an assist from McGovern.

McGovern and Rossini each scored in the final 10 minutes to give Norwich the 8-1 victory.

NU senior goalie Laurie King (Waddington, N.Y.) made eight saves to improve to 14-1-2 on the season. Castleton used all three of its goalies with Rylie Wills taking the loss after giving up two goals on four shots on goal.

Norwich returns to action on Friday and Saturday when it travels to Plymouth State and New England College for another pair of NEHC contests. The Cadets can clinch the NEHC regular season title and the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament with one more victory in its final four league games.
