Box Score PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – The Norwich University women's ice hockey team skated to a 3-3 draw on Saturday afternoon at No. 2/3 Elmira College in non-conference action at the Murray Athletic Center.
The line of Alyssa Hulst (Scarborough, Maine), Sarah Schwenzfeier (Hingham, Mass.) and Adrieana Rossini (Malden, Mass.) accounted for all three of Norwich's goals as the Cadets rallied from a 3-1 third period deficit to salvage the tie for the second straight year at Elmira.
Norwich (14-1-2, 7-0-0 NEHC) took a 1-0 lead with Hulst scoring her team-leading sixth power play goal of the year and 11th overall at the 3:34 mark of the first period. Hulst scored off assists from Maddi Blauth (Pennington, N.J.) and Samantha Benoit (Bow, N.H.).
Elmira (13-2-1) leveled the score at the 11:42 mark with Katie Granato scoring her first goal of the night and 15th of the season on the power play as well off assists from Devyn Gilman and Maddie Evangelous.
The Soaring Eagles scored two more goals in the second period with Jess Adams and Granato scoring again to take a 3-1 lead. Adams scored her second of the year at the 4:53 mark and Granato scored her 16th of the season with assists from Meghan Fonfara and Evangelous.
Norwich started its comeback at the 2:56 mark of the third period with Schwenzfeier scoring again on the power play off assists from Nicole Goebel (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) and Kim Tiberi (Raleigh, N.C.).
Rossini scored the game-tying goal for the second straight year vs. Elmira, this time scoring with 14:13 left in the third period off assists from Hulst and Benoit.
NU senior goalie Laurie King (Waddington, N.Y.) made 14 saves in the game, while Elmira's Kelcey Crawford had 32 stops.
Norwich doubled up Elmira in shots on goal with 35 to EC's 17.
The Cadets return home to Kreitzberg Arena to host UMass Boston at 7 p.m. on Friday and Salve Regina on Saturday at 3 p.m. On Saturday, Norwich will celebrate Senior Day with eight seniors on this year's team being honored with a pre-game ceremony.
