NORTHFIELD, Vt.—The Norwich University volleyball team picked up a 3-1 win over the New England College Pilgrims in their home opener on Wednesday evening.

The win boosts the Cadets to 1-3 on the season, while NEC evens to 2-2.

The Cadets tallied 48 kills as a team, including 12 apiece from Kathryn Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) and Michele Zummo (Highland Mills, N.Y.). Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) dished out 39 assists for the Cadets and also paced the defense with 19 digs for the double-double. Monika Schneider (Brookline, N.H.) served four service aces.

The Pilgrims were paced by Kennedy Somavia (Red Bluff, Calif.) with seven kills. Kayleigh MacDougall (Farmington, N.H.), Kaitlyn Walker (Cottonwood, Calif.) and Dreka Griffin (Calera, Ala.) all finished with five kills apiece. Gabryella Serrano (Bridgewater, Mass.) dished out 18 assists, while Meaghan Six (Manchester, N.H.) paced the defense with 15 of the team's 59 kills. MacDougall served a match-high six service aces.

The Cadets handed the Pilgrims the win in the first set, as they made eight service errors and five attack errors to account for half of NEC's points in the 26-24 victory.

The hosts improved their play in the second set to claim a 25-15 victory. Norwich would claim the third set by a score of 25-17 by holding NEC to just three kills.

NEC went up early in the fourth match but Norwich prevailed, claiming a 25-21 victory despite each team clocking in with 10 kills each in the set.

NEC competes in the Granite State Challenge this weekend, traveling to Plymouth State for two matches on Friday and playing two more at Keene State on Saturday. Norwich hosts Fisher and Lyndon State for a tri-match on Saturday.
