Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Norwich University volleyball team swept the Univ. of St. Joseph (Conn.) and Medgar Evers on Saturday to extend its winning streak to seven straight games, which is the second longest win streak in program history.

Norwich (7-3, 1-0 GNAC) outlasted Univ. of St. Joseph for a five-set win in the opener and then made quick work of Medgar Evers in a 3-0 sweep in the second game. The Cadets beat USJ 25-15, 21-25, 23-25, 25-16 and 15-7 to claim their first GNAC victory of the season. NU then beat Medgar Evers 25-11, 25-6 and 25-14 to complete the sweep.

Norwich won its first GNAC opener since the 2011 season behind another balanced offensive effort with three players notching double-digit kills vs. USJ.

Sophomore Michele Zummo (Highland Mills, N.Y.) led the way with 13 kills, three service aces and 11 digs to maintain her team kills lead. The freshmen duo of Kathryn Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) and Julia Schroeder (Victorville, Calif.) each had 10 kills vs. the Blue Jays, as well as 15 and 14 digs respectively. Schroeder also led the team with six service aces.

Sophomore Monika Schneider (Brookline, N.H.) totaled nine kills and 14 digs, while junior Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) had 44 assists and nine digs to pace the offense. Sophomore Marissa Perrotti (Moultonborough, N.H.) chipped in with seven kills.

Sophomore libero Brianna Dawson (Katonah, N.Y.) led the team defensively with 20 digs.

After a long five-set battle in the first game, the Cadets breezed their way past Medgar Evers. Farnum led the way with eight kills, while Schroeder had six. Zummo and Schneider each had five kills to round out the NU offensive leaders. Oliver added five kills and 27 assists.

Freshman Rebecca Finley (Waynesville, Mo.) recorded her first collegiate kill in the victory over Medgar Evers.

The longest winning streak in Norwich volleyball program history is 10 games, set by the 2009 team.

Norwich returns to its home court at Andrews Hall this week where it will host three games vs. Green Mountain (9/19), Newbury (9/20) and Emmanuel (9/23).  The Cadets are a perfect 4-0 at home so far in 2017.
