Box Score 2 STANDISH, Maine – The Norwich University baseball team traveled to take on St. Joseph's College (Maine) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader on Friday.
The Monks swept the Cadets with a 16-0 win in game one and a 13-0 victory in game two.
In game one the Monks scored early and often leading 3-0 after two innings, 12-0 after three innings and 14-0 after five. They added two more in the sixth inning for the 16-0 score.
Sophomore left fielder Kevin Lynch (Randolph, Mass.) went 2-for-3 with senior designated hitter Matt Sirois (Southington, Conn.) and junior first baseman Eddie Gates (Griswold, Conn.) also collecting hits in the loss.
Senior Billy Whaley (Northfield, Vt.) allowed 12 earned runs on 11 hits and four walks while striking out five over three innings of work. He falls to 3-6 on the season.
In game two the Monks put up seven runs in the bottom of the second and five more in the third for an early 12-0 lead. They plated one more in the fourth for the 13-0 final.
Lynch, Sirois, junior second baseman Drew Caldwell (Hanover, Mass) and junior Leland Goodenough (Brookfield, Vt.) all collected hits in the loss. Lynch also stole two bases in the contest while Caldwell swiped one base.
Freshman Casey Lemke (Winter Garden, Fla.) took the loss for the Cadets after allowing 12 runs (nine earned) on 10 hits and two walks in three innings. He falls to 0-3 on the season.
Freshman Scott Svalestad (East Hampton, Conn.) was solid in relief giving up one earned run on five hits over three innings of work.
The Cadets are next in action on Saturday, April 29th when they host the Lasell College Lasers in a GNAC twinbill. Game times are set for 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. and Norwich will honor its six seniors in a pre-game ceremony.
