Box Score 2 NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University baseball team hosted Plattsburgh State in a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Garrity Field.
The Cardinals swept the Cadets with an 8-2 win in game one and a 3-1 final in game two.
Norwich jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single by freshman catcher Jake Godbee (Ormond Beach, Fla.) and a sacrifice fly by sophomore Dustin Spatz (Bernville, Penn.). It was Godbee's first career RBI.
The Cardinals responded with three runs in the third and three more in the fourth to take a 6-2 lead. They added a run in the sixth and seventh frames as well for an 8-2 final.
Freshman designated hitter Andrew Fisher (Tewksbury, Mass.) went 3-for-4 in game one with three singles.
Freshman Casey Lemke (Winter Garden, Fla.) took the loss for the Cadets to fall to 0-2. He allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and two walks. He struck out two batters. Fellow freshmam Nick Landis (South Berwick, Maine) pitched two innings of relief, surrendering three runs (two earned) on one hit and three walks. He fanned three Cardinal batters.
In game two the Cardinals took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning and added another in the sixth for a 3-0 lead.
The Norwich bats rallied in the bottom of the seventh as sophomore Drew Caldwell (Hanover, Mass.) ripped a one-out, standup triple to centerfield. Senior center fielder LaShawn Thomas (San Antonio, Texas) then lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to cut the defecit to 3-1. That was all the Cadet bats could muster as the Cards took the 3-1 final.
Sophomore left fielder Kevin Lynch (Randolph, Mass.) went 2-for-4 in game two with two singles.
Sophomore Jake Ryan (Arlington, Mass.) was saddled with the loss after allowing two unearned runs on four hits and one walk. He struck out four batters and now stands at 1-3 on the season.

Matt Paze (Carlisle, Mass.) tossed three innings of relief (one unearned run on three hits and one walk) and freshman
Daniel Bendig (Bellmore, N.Y.) threw one inning (no hits, one walk one strikeout) in the loss.
The Cadets fall to 12-19 overall while the Cardinals improve to 10-19.
