Box Score JOHNSON, Vt. - The Norwich University women's basketball team grabbed the lead early on against the Johnson State Badgers and never let go, pulling out a 60-41 victory on Thursday evening.
Johnson State jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, as the Cadets took a little time to warm up their offensive attack. However, after an Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) 3-pointer gave the Cadets a 6-4 lead, things turned around quickly and NU never looked back. A stifling defensive effort in the second and third quarter held Johnson State to a mere 16 points as the offensive unit got going, and the Cadets sewed up the 60-51 victory.
Shyann Josler (Thetford Center, Vt.) continued the hot start to her senior campaign, once again leading the Cadets with 17 points while recording 2 steals, pulling down 5 rebounds, and finding her teammates for 5 assists. Vanessa Fleury (Lebanon, N.H.) put together a solid game off the bench, leading the team with 7 rebounds and 2 blocks. Katie Dixon (Revere, Mass.) matched her 7 rebounds while leading the team with 4 steals.
As a team, once the Cadets offensive got going, it didn't stop. The Cadets shot 32.3% (21-65) from the field, including 50% (6-12) shooting night from deep. Defensively, they held the Badgers to a mere 23.1% (15-65) night from the field and forced 21 turnovers.
The third win in their last four games raises the Cadets' overall record to 3-4 on the year, as the Cadets get ready to enter their conference schedule this Saturday. The Albertus Magnus Falcons will come to campus for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) showdown, set to tip off in Andrews Hall at 3:00 PM.
