Box Score DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Norwich University men's basketball team wrapped up their trip to Florida this weekend with an 83-64 victory over Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday night in Daytona Beach, Florida.
The Cadets opened the game up with a 10-2 run, kicked off by a Joe Bertrand (Saugus, Mass.) 3-point shot and capped off by a Mike Hogervorst (Leiden, South Holland, Netherlands) layup, and never let go of the lead. The Chargers of Colby-Sawyer manage to hang with the Cadets throughout the half, cutting the Norwich lead to a mere 6 points heading into the break.
Norwich came out firing offensively in the second half, as the whole team found their rhythm from 3-point territory and shot 83.3% (10-12) from deep. Bertrand led the way with a perfect 3-3 effort from deep in the second half, as well as 4 rebounds and 3 assists to help the Cadets take over the game and pull away from the Chargers. Norwich outscored Colby-Sawyer 51-38 in the second half to pull out the 83-64 victory.
On the game, Norwich went 13-23 (56.5%) from 3-point territory and 25-47 (53.2%) from the field. The Cadets also managed to outrebound the Chargers 35-34 and hold Colby-Sawyer's offense to a mere 35.8% shooting percentage from the field on the day.
Freshman Jesse Davis (Woodinville, Wash.) once again led the team offensively with 25 points, while Joe Bertrand had a complete game with 19 points on 6-8 (75%) shooting, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Daniel Haimes (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) provided a spark off the bench with 10 points on 2-3 (66%) shooting from 3-point land and 4-4 shooting from the free throw line.
That wraps up the Cadets' time in the Sunshine State, as the team returns home for their next contest on January 6th. The Monks of Saint Joseph's College (Maine) come to town for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) showdown, set to tip off at 3:00 PM in Andrews Hall.
