Men's Hockey: Norwich skates to 2-2 draw with No. 6/10 Hobart

Box Score

GENEVA, N.Y. – The Norwich University men's ice hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie with No. 6/10-nationally ranked Hobart College on Saturday night in the first-ever New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) league meeting between the two schools.

Norwich (3-1-1, 3-0-1 NEHC) got goals from freshmen Felix Brassard (St. Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec) and Coby Downs (Montclair, Calif.), while senior Braeden Ostepchuk (Lethbridge, Alberta) made 29 saves in goal.

The Cadets failed to score again in the first period, but NU scored two within a span of 25 seconds early in the second period to take a 2-1 lead.

Brassard tied the game up at 1-1 at the 3:39 mark with Carter Cowlthorp (Boissevain, Manitoba) and Jordan Hall (Anchorage, Alaska) picking up the assists.

Brassard beat Hobart goalie Alexander Connal glove side for his second goal of the season.

Downs put the Cadets on top just moments later with his fourth goal of the year to take over the team lead with a shot that beat Connal glove side as well. Kevin Salvucci (Plymouth, Mass.) and TJ Dockery (Lockport, N.Y.) picking up assists on the goal.

Hobart (4-1-1, 3-0-1 NEHC) tied the game back up with a power play goal at the 12:13 mark of the third period after Mike Faulkner's shot deflected off bodies in front of the net and into the back of the net past Ostepchuk.

Norwich got a five-minute major power play at the end of the third period and for nearly the entire overtime session, but the Cadets were unable to capitalize. Connor Evangelista (Wakefield, Mass.) hit the post with a wrist shot but other than that, NU failed to consistently apply pressure on the extended man-up opportunity.

Hobart outshot Norwich 31-23, including a 15-4 advantage in the first period.

Norwich will return home to Kreitzberg Arena to host its annual Alumni Weekend on Friday, Nov. 17 and 18. The Cadets will take on New England College on Friday at 7 p.m. and then Southern Maine on Saturday at 4 p.m.
