Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University women's soccer team fell 3-0 to Johnson & Wales on Sunday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium.
Johnson & Wales (5-1-1, 1-0-1 GNAC) got a pair of goals from Kyra Selner and another from Gabriella Weithofer en route to their fifth straight victory over Norwich.
Selner scored in the opening minute with a long bomb from 30 yards out with her left foot that she tucked into the right corner of the net. She added another tally in the 52nd minute off an assist from SaraKate Matthews. Matthews passed the ball off to Selner to her right and then Selner made a move around a defender before blasting the ball into the right side of the net from 18 yards out to make it 2-0 Wildcats.
Weithofer closed the scoring in the 74th minute with a shot that bounced off the right post and deflected off of NU junior goalkeeper Leandra Flores-Nieves (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and into the back of the net to cap the scoring.
Flores-Nieves made 10 saves for the Cadets. JWU outshot Norwich 41-5. Colleen Lynch stopped both shots she faced to earn the shutout and improve to 5-0-1.
Norwich (1-4-1, 0-2-0 GNAC) lost its third straight game and will be in action next Saturday when it travels to Mount Ida for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
