Box Score LYNDON, Vt. – The Norwich University baseball team dropped a 6-2 non-conference matchup at Lyndon State College on Thursday afternoon.
The Cadets jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning with a two-out rally spurned by a walk drawn by freshman Jacob Ryan (Arlington, Mass.). Fellow freshman Jacob Barlow (Newburyport, Mass.) followed with a single to push Ryan to third.
Freshman Dustin Spatz (Bernville, Pa.) stepped to the plate and delivered an RBI single through the right side of the infield to give the Cadets the 1-0 lead.
The Hornets jumped in front with two runs in the bottom of the inning for a 2-1 lead and added three more in the fifth inning to lead 5-1 after five.
Lyndon added its final run in the top of the seventh to take a 6-1 advantage before Norwich scored again in the ninth inning.
Freshman Kevin Lynch (Randolph, Mass.) reached on a fielder's choice that scored Barlow from third base for the Cadets second and final run of the game.
Barlow finished the game three-for-four while Ryan and Lynch both chipped in two hits apiece.
Ryan took the loss to fall to 0-6 on the season after tossing four and one-third innings. He allowed four earned runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three batters.
Steve Bova collected the win for the Hornets after throwing four innings, allowing one earned run on four hits and two walks.
The Cadets outhit the Hornets 10-7 despite the final score.
Lyndon improved to 9-24 while Norwich falls to 4-29.
Norwich is next in action on Saturday, hosting Saint Joseph's College of Maine in a GNAC doubleheader. The games serve as the season finale for the Cadets as well as senior day. Start times are set for 1 and 3:30 p.m.
