Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – The Norwich University softball team's bats started to come alive on the third day of its spring break trip to Florida. However, it wasn't quite enough as the Cadets fell 7-4 to Western New England and 5-2 to Fitchburg State as they continue to look for their first win of 2016.
Senior catcher Angie Hershberger (Felton, Calif.) had a two-run double, while classmate Taylor Morris (Haverhill, N.H.) went 3-for-4 with a RBI and run scored to lead the Norwich (0-6) offense in a 7-4 loss to Western New England to open the day.
Norwich out hit the Golden Bears 12-8, but it was unable to overcome an early 5-1 hole after the first two innings. Sophomore Olivia Bussiere (Northfield, Vt.) went 1-for-3 with a RBI as well for the Cadets. Sophomore Kassy Kazimierczak (Adams, Mass.) went 2-for-4 at the plate.
Freshman Rachel Johnson (Stockbridge, Vt.) took the loss again, walking eight batters and striking out three.
In game two, Bussiere had a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning, to cut Fitchburg State's lead to 4-2. However, the Falcons tacked on a run in the top of the seventh and the Cadets were unable to answer.
Freshman Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) gave up 11 hits and two earned runs, while walking two and striking out three to take the loss for the Cadets to fall to 0-2.
Norwich closes out its Florida trip with a doubleheader on Friday morning vs. Trinity and Babson.
