Box Score 2 FORT PIERCE, Fla. - The Norwich University baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Albright College on Sunday afternoon.
The Lions took game one 6-3 and game two 8-1.
The Cadets took an early lead in the first inning of game one on an RBI single by senior Brian Baker (Keene, N.H.) that scored freshman Kevin Lynch (Randolph, Mass.) who led off the game with a single.
Albright scored one run in the bottom of the frame to knot the game at 1-1.
The Lions added three runs in the bottom of the fifth and two in the sixth to stretch their lead to 6-1 before the Cadets got two back in the seventh.
Junior Tim Haggerty (Medfield, Mass.) opened the inning with a leadoff double and sophomore Eddie Gates (Griswold, Conn.) followed with a double of his own to plate Haggerty to make it 6-2. Lynch delivered an RBI single later in the inning to cut the lead to 6-3, where it would remain.
Freshman Jake Ryan (Arlington, Mass.) took the loss for the Cadets to fall to 0-1 on the season after throwing four innings. He allowed three earned runs on four hits and a walk while striking out four batters.
In game two it was the Lions who jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning before the Cadets got one back in the bottom.
Baker hit a one-out single before junior Matt Sirois (Southington, Conn.) tripled to centerfield to make it 2-1.
The Lions added two runs in the third, three in the sixth and one in the seventh to make it an 8-1 game.
Junior Kyle Farquharson (South Ryegate, Vt.) took the loss for Norwich to fall to 0-1 after tossing four innings. He allowed four runs (two earned) on seven hits. He struck out five batters.
Norwich falls to 1-7 on the season and will be back in action on Tuesday to play two nine-inning games. The Cadets will take on Geneva at 10 a.m. and Earlham at 2 p.m.
