Box Score NASHUA, N.H. – The Norwich University women's volleyball team dropped a straight-set match to Rivier University on Tuesday. The Cadets fall to 5-12 overall and to 1-6 within the Great Northeast Athletic Conference while Rivier improves to 22-3, winning six-of-seven within league play.
Rivier dispatched Norwich via set scores of 25-8, 25-14 and 25-18. The Raiders are now 12-0 all-time against the Cadets, only dropping two of a possible 35 sets dating back to the teams' first-ever meeting on Oct. 7, 2007.
Freshman Monika Schneider (Brookline, N.H.) and classmate Marissa Perrotti (Moultonborough, N.H.) each registered four kills while sophomore Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) led the way with 14 assists on her team's 17 kills. Freshman Brianna Dawson (Katonah, N.Y.) racked up a team-best seven digs.
The Raiders overwhelmed Norwich in the first set, cruising to a decisive 25-8 first set victory. Two Cadets timeouts could not slow the dominant Rivier effort – the hosts hit a commanding .476, hammering home 13 kills on 21 attacks with only three attacking errors.
Norwich yielded seven of the first eight points of the second set and went on to lose, but a strong Cadets rally nearly upended the hosts in the finale. Norwich and Rivier battled to a 13-13 tie before four-straight points by the Raiders – a kill from senior Alex Ruediger (Sandy Lake, Pa.) would bring the score to 18-16, but the early damage had been done.
Ashley Winet led Rivier with six kills while Alley Stefanovski dished out assists on 22 of her team's 36 kills. Jillian Boyle posted 11 digs as her team scooped up 40 of Norwich's 80 total attacks.
Norwich hosts Lasell and Suffolk in a tri-match in Andrews Hall this Saturday, Oct. 22 at high noon.
