SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Norwich University men's ice hockey team picked up a point on the weekend, salvaging a 2-2 tie vs. Skidmore College on Saturday afternoon in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.
Sophomore Payton Baldillez (Arlington, Texas) and junior Dmitry Ermakov (Columbia, Md.) each scored goals as the Cadets struck twice in the final minute of the second period to take a brief 2-1 lead.
However, Skidmore answered with a power play goal late in the third period to knot the game back up at 2-2. Neither side was able to score in overtime, although Norwich's Baldillez hit the post and Paul Russell (Andover, Mass.) had a chance but couldn't get a stick on a pass in what would have been the game-winning goal.
Junior goalie Ty Reichenbach (Billings, Mont.) got the start in goal, making 25 saves to level his record to 3-3-1 on the year.
Norwich (13-7-2, 8-5-2 NEHC) returns home to Kreitzberg Arena for its three remaining regular season games. The Cadets will host Babson and UMass Boston next Friday and Saturday as they look to lock up a home-ice playoff game for the NEHC Tournament.
