Box Score WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Sophomore guard Shyann Josler (Thetford, Vt.) scored a career-high 26 points and junior forward Heather LeBlanc (Sanford, Maine) had a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds as the Norwich University women's basketball team defeated the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) 81-57 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game Wednesday night at the O'Connell Center.
Norwich improved to 10-8 overall and 3-3 in the GNAC, while USJ drops to 2-16 overall and 1-5 in conference play.
Josler made six three pointers on 10 attempts and added five assists and five rebounds. LeBlanc shot 7-for-11 from the floor and had 10 points and 10 rebounds at halftime. Freshman Vanessa Fleury (Lebanon, N.H.) added 12 points for the Cadets.
Sophomore guard Rajeen Mayo (Middletown, Conn.) scored 20 points to lead USJ and Carlee Putnam (Niantic, Conn.) had 16 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Kayla Guest (Newington, Conn.) chipped in with eight points for the Blue Jays.
Norwich had a 21-6 edge on the offensive boards, leading to 19 second-chance points to none for USJ and a 61-32 total rebounding margin. The Blue Jays forced 18 turnovers to 14, resulting in a 22-11 advantage in points off turnovers. Norwich never trailed and led 22-14, 44-27 and 61-43 after each quarter.
The Cadets will look to extend the winning streak as they host Mount Ida College on Saturday, Jan. 30 for the 1 p.m. GNAC contest.
