NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Freshman forward Bryn Labbe (Calgary, Alberta) scored four goals to lead the Norwich University women's ice hockey team to a 6-0 shutout victory over Nichols College on Saturday afternoon at Kreitzberg Arena in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.

Labbe also added an assist for a five-point game, while senior Rachel Bellio (Johnstown, Colo.) and junior Adelle Murphy (Roseau, Minn.) each tallied a goal and an assist to help lead the Cadet offense as well.

Norwich (11-6-0, 9-1-0 NEHC) struck first blood at the 8:27 mark of the first period with junior Adelle Murphy (Roseau, Minn.) scoring her team-leading eighth goal of the season off assists from Labbe and Michelle Masperi (Montorfano, Italy).

Masperi ripped a shot from the blue line that was turned aside by Nichols starting goalie Cassandra Goyette. However, the rebound kicked out to Labbe who sent a shot back at the net, Goyette made a pad save but once again couldn't control the rebound leaving Murphy a chance to kick the puck up to her stick and slip it past the Nichols goalie to make it 1-0 Norwich.

The Cadets increased the lead to 2-0 at the 16:30 mark of the first period with Labbe deflecting a wrist shot from Taylor Cross (Saugus, Mass.) off Goyette's pad and into the back of the net. Freshman Carly Menges (Novelty, Ohio) picked up the second assist after working the puck in a triangle with Cross and Madison Gallagher (Kirkland, Quebec) at the top of the zone on the power play.

Labbe scored two more goals in the second period to complete the natural hat trick for her first collegiate three-goal game.

She second her second of the game at the 4:50 mark of the middle stanza, picking off a pass at the blue line, skating off the half boards and firing a wrist shot while falling to the ice that hit off a Nichols defender and went through a screen by Murphy off the left post and into the back of the net.

She scored again at the 12:44 mark of the second period with a power play goal off assists from Gallagher and Murphy.

Norwich extended the lead to 5-0 at the 9:44 mark of the third period with Bellio beating Goyette five-hole off a pretty 2-on-1 rush with Maki Shuchuk (Madison, Wis.). Shuchuk fed a saucer pass from the left wing over to Bellio, who take care of the rest slipping the puck between Goyette's legs with a wrist shot. Sophomore Sarah Schwenzfeier (Hingham, Mass.) had the second assist.

The Cadets capped the scoring at the 12:13 mark of the third period with Labbe scoring shorthanded on a partial breakaway with a backhand that beat Goyette just inside the right post. Menges picked up her second assist of the game after starting the play by kicking the puck up to Bellio; Bellio sent a tape to tape pass to Labbe to spring her on the break.

Norwich junior goalie Celeste Robert (Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec) stopped all eight shots she faced to improve to 6-4-0 on the season. Nichols' Goyette dropped to 1-4-0 on the year after stopping 41 shots.

Nichols dropped to 2-15-0 overall and 0-9-0 in NEHC play with the loss.

Norwich returns to action next weekend when it hits the road for another NEHC doubleheader weekend at Plymouth State on Friday at 6 p.m. and then at UMass Boston on Saturday at 1 p.m.
