Box Score HENNIKER, N.H. – The Norwich University men's ice hockey team got goals from four different skaters as the Cadets topped the New England College Pilgrims 4-1 Friday evening in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) men's ice hockey action.
With the win the Cadets improve to 13-6-0 overall and 8-4-0 in NEHC play. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 9-7-3 on the season and 4-5-3 in conference.
Norwich got on the board 15:32 into the opening period as Dean Niezgoda (Brewster, Mass.) sent in a shot from the goal line that caught the pads of NEC keeper Brett Kilar and bounced in.
The Cadets took advantage of their first power play of the evening as Kevin Salvucci (Plymouth, Mass.) fired in a shot scoring just nine seconds into the man advantage assisted by Cody Smith (Hudson, Mass.) and Mitch Byrne (Onaping, Ontario).
The Pilgrims broke the scoring drought 4:46 into the third period as Mike Whitehair converted on a two-on-one netting his fifth goal of the season assisted by Kyle Arenson. Norwich regained the two-goal lead at the 9:17 mark in the third as Lane Harbor (Val Marie, Saskatchewan) notched his first-career goal beating Kilar over the right shoulder. The Cadets tacked on an empty-netter by Justin Charbonneau (Bromont, Quebec) in the final minute.
Picking up the win in net for Norwich was Braeden Ostepchuk (Lethbridge, Alberta) who finished with 22 saves.
In net for the Pilgrims was Brett Kilar who notched 28 saves.
New England College will hit the ice again on Saturday, Jan. 23 when they host New England Hockey Conference foe St. Michael's College.
Norwich will travel to battle conference opponent St. Anselm College on Saturday, Jan. 23.
