Box Score

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The Norwich University women's ice hockey team fell 6-0 to No. 1-ranked and defending national champion Plattsburgh State on Tuesday night at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena.

The Cardinals (16-0-0) jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage when Melissa Ames slammed in a rebound on the power play exactly four minutes in.

PSU junior defenseman Julia Duquette netted a goal for the second-straight game and her second of the season. The North Tonawanda, N.Y. native swung down to the left circle from the blueline sending a wrister by the NU starting goalie Celeste Robert (Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec).

Four minutes later, Norwich would swap goalies in favor of sophomore Laurie King (Waddington, N.Y.).

Plattsburgh State extended its lead to 3-0 on a rebound tip-in by Karen Hudson for her first of her career. The freshman took the first shot on King from deep in the right circle before following her own rebound tipping it over the glove of King.

Fellow freshman Mackenzie Millen got her first of the season as well to make it 4-0 Cardinals. Millen intercepted a pass sending her on a breakaway where she deked glove side before bring it back to the left and tucking it in past the sprawled out leg of King.

Coming off her ECAC West Player of the Week award, Kayla Meneghin slipped a shot five-hole on King to make it 5-0 Cardinals.

Melissa Sheeran made it 6-0 by collecting her own rebound before her wrap around attempt slid into the back of the net.

Camille Leonard boasted her fifth-consecutive shutout and ninth on the season, stopping all 25 Cadet shots. Leonard's shutout streak now extends to 330:28 minutes. Robert made 14 saves before turning away to King who made 24.

Plattsburgh extended its unbeaten streak vs. Norwich to 10 straight games. The Cardinals now lead the all-time series 10-4-2. The Cardinals downed NU 2-1 on a goal in the last minute in each team's season opener in November.

Sophomore forward Erin Joyce (Manchester, N.H.) led the Cadets with six shots on goal.

Tuesday night marked the Norwich debut of freshman defenseman Carly Menges (Novelty, Ohio), who transfered in over the holiday break from Division I University of Maine.

Norwich (9-6-0, 7-1-0 NEHC) looks to get back on track on Friday when it travels to South Burlington to take on Saint Michael's in NEHC action. The Cadets then return home for their first game at Kreitzberg Arena since Dec. 4, 2015 when it hosts Nichols at 3 p.m.
