Box Score PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Norwich University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Johnson & Wales University in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) on Saturday, Sept. 19.
Norwich has lost three straight GNAC contests and are 2-5 on the year, while Johnson & Wales earned its first conference win of the season and improved to 6-4 overall.
In a match that took an hour to complete, Johnson & Wales cruised to a 25-13 victory in the opening set and then held off the Cadets in the final two sets, 25-15 and 25-12.
Freshman Emily Kalmink (Byron Center, Mich.) paced the host with a game-high 12 kills to go along with two solo blocks. Senior outside hitter Paula Cadavid (Pawtucket, R.I.) added 10 kills, four service aces and five digs, while senior Kellen Tensen (New Canaan, Conn.) notched 25 assists two kills.
For Norwich, senior outside hitter Tara Lyons (Pocasset, Mass.) recorded a team-high seven kills and a block solo. Freshman Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) would add four kills and four digs, while sophomore setter Katie Crane (Avon, N.Y.) notched 13 assists with two kills and two digs.
Johnson & Wales finished with .338 hitting percentage as the Wildcats recorded 77 kills and 15 attacking errors. The Wildcats also finished with 11 aces in the match, but also committed six serving errors.
Norwich connected for a .067 attacking percentage with 17 kills and 13 errors.
The Cadets are back in action on the road at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) on Wednesday, Sept. 23 for the 7:00 p.m. contest.
