NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University baseball team dropped a pair of non-conference contests to Colby-Sawyer College, 8-3 and 6-0, on Sunday afternoon.

Norwich moves to 7-18 overall, while the Chargers improved to 3-27 on the season.

Game 1 (Colby-Sawyer 8, Norwich 3)

Junior Billy Whaley (Northfield, Vt.) made the start for the Cadets and pitched a complete game in the loss, allowing six hits and eight earned runs with seven strikeouts. Sophomore Jake Greaney (Groveland, Mass.) went the distance on the other end, limiting the Cadets to six hits and three runs in seven innings for the win.

Whaley allowed three hits in the first two innings before finding the groove to hold the Chargers scoreless in the next four innings. The visitors would break through in the top of the seventh, scoring five runs to extend the 8-0 lead. The Cadets rallied in the bottom frame, scoring three runs before Greaney forced a ground out play to seal the victory. Junior shortstop Brian Baker (Keene, N.H.) went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored, while sophomore Brandon Pedley, freshman Drew Cadwell (Hanover, Mass.) and sophomore Matt Sirois each recorded a hit with Pedley and Cadwell scoring a run for the Cadets.

Game 2 (Colby-Sawyer 6, Norwich 0)

Freshman Connor Henry (East Boston, Mass.) earned the win for Colby-Sawyer in the second game, while senior Brandon Place (Concord, N.H.) took the loss for the Cadets.

Colby-Sawyer jumped out of the gate with four runs in the first four innings before tacking on two more in the top of the sixth. The Cadets had several scoring opportunities but the Chargers' defense kept the baserunners at bay nine times throughout the contest. Sophomore LaShawn Thomas (San Antonio, Texas) would to 2-for-4 at the plate with Baker, Sirois and Jameson Gates (La Selva Beach, Calif.) each recorded a hit for the Cadets.

Norwich returns to action on Tuesday, April 28 when they host Plattsburgh State in a doubleheader contest. The first game is set for 2:00 p.m. with the second game expected to start at 4:30 p.m.
