Box Score

NASHUA, N.H. – The Norwich University women's lacrosse team traveled to Nashua, N.H. Monday night and edged Rivier University, 13-11 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play. The win improved the Cadets to 5-5 on the season and 3-4 in the GNAC, while Rivier continues to struggle, now at 4-9 overall and 3-5 in league play.

Senior attacker Gina Conroy (Amherst, N.H.) and sophomore midfielder Chapel Guarnieri (Pepperell, Mass.) each scored four goals, while sophomore Meaghan Albert (Lanesborough, Mass.) netted three of her own. Senior Hope Royce (Washington, Vt.) and freshman Teresa Segreti (Salisbury Mills, N.Y.) each contributed a goal in the win.

Norwich would score six straight to open the contest with Conroy and Albert scoring a pair of goals to start the rally. Rivier would get on the board at the 9:14 mark on a goal from sophomore midfielder Amanda Wickens (Tyngsboro, Mass.) that sparked a five-goal scoring spree as the Raiders shrunk the deficit to a one-goal game with Norwich leading 6-5 at the break.

River would tie it up in the second half on a Wickens' free position goal before Royce tallied her first goal of the game to give NU the 7-6 lead with 25:08 on the board. The Raiders continued to finds gaps within Norwich's defense, scoring back-to-back goals in a span of 3:10 to take their first lead of the game. After both teams traded goals and Rivier still maintaining the lead, 9-8, the Cadets marched down the field, scoring three straight goals from Albert and a pair from Conroy, to retake the lead and more for the 11-9 score with 11:52 remaining in the game. Rivier looked to bounce right back into contention, but the next two Raiders' goals would be matched by a Cadet goal as Norwich held on for the 13-11 victory.

Senior goalkeeper Irene Okubo (Chicago, Ill.) would pick up her third win of the season after posting eight saves on 19 shots. Rivier's junior Paxton Larocque (Londonderry, N.H.) started in the cage for the first time and turned away six shots for the loss.

Rivier would have an advantage on ground balls, 53-41, and draw controls, 16-10, but the Cadets outshot the Raiders, 33-24 and caused 20 turnovers against Rivier.

The Cadets are back in action on Wednesday, April 15 when they host Simmons College for the 3:00 p.m. GNAC matchup before wrapping up the regular season at home on Saturday, April 18 versus Johnson & Wales University for the 1:00 p.m. draw.
