PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Norwich University softball team dropped a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) games on Friday at Johnson & Wales.

JWU (8-8) beat the Cadets 10-2 in five innings in Game 1 and then followed up with a 7-2 victory in Game 2 to take the doubleheader.

Johnson & Wales hit three home runs in the opener with two coming from Cynthia Proby and another coming from Emily Gorecki to do most of its damage on the day. Proby finished 3-for-3 with six RBIs, while Gorecki had a three-run homer to account for all but one of the Wildcat runs.

Norwich junior Taylor Morris (Haverhill, N.H.) went 1-for-2 at the plate with two-RBI double to score Justina George (Wallingford, Conn.) and Payton Warner (Harwich, Mass.) for the Cadets' two runs in the game.

In Game 2, senior Corinne Baita (Rochester, N.H.) and JWU's Noelle Weiss were locked in a pitcher's duel for four scoreless innings. Norwich got on the board first in the top of the fifth with Warner knocking a solo home run and Morris bringing home George for a RBI.

However, JWU responded back with three runs in the bottom of the inning and then four more in the bottom of the sixth to take a 7-2 lead that it would never look back from. Eileen Eads highlighted JWU's four-run sixth with a three-run home run.

Baita took the loss for Norwich, falling to 2-6 on the season after giving up four earned runs on eight hits and four walks while striking out five.

George went 2-for-3 to lead the Norwich offense.

The Cadets continue their busy weekend, traveling to Mount Ida on Saturday for another GNAC doubleheader starting at 4:30 p.m.
