Box Score VERO BEACH, Fla. – The Norwich University softball team dropped its second straight game of its spring break trip at the Treasure Coast Invitational at Historic Dodgertown.
For the second straight game, Norwich (0-2) was plagued by defensive miscues as the Cadets' defense committed eight errors in the field to spoil a 10-strikeout performance from senior pitcher Corinne Baita (Rochester, N.H.).
Baita surrendered just three earned runs on six hits and six walks to take the loss in her first start of 2015.
Senior shortstop Melissa Rome (Enfield, Conn.) had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Cadets' offense on the day. She had a two-run single in the bottom of the third to briefly cut Claflin's lead to 6-2.
Juniors Payton Warner (Harwich, Mass.) and Justina George (Wallingford, Conn.) each scored runs for Norwich and had hits as well.
Norwich plays its first doubleheader of the season on Tuesday when it takes on Carlow for a pair of games at 9 and 11 a.m.
