Box Score 2 NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Norwich University softball team was swept by Albertus Magnus in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) softball action on Saturday.
Albertus Magnus (7-7, 3-1 GNAC) mercy-ruled the Cadets 14-3 in the opener and then squeaked out a 10-9 win in the second game to take both ends of the league doubleheader from Norwich.
In Game 2, home runs from junior Taylor Morris (Haverhill, N.H.) and sophomore Jordan Day (Andover, Mass.) weren't enough for Norwich (3-9, 1-3 GNAC) as a six-run fourth inning for the Falcons did the Cadets in.
Norwich pounded out 13 hits in Game 2 with three RBIs each from Morris and Day, along with two hit efforts from Sarah Perry (New Bedford, Mass.), Melissa Rome (Enfield, Conn.), Kassy Kazimierczak (Adams, Mass.) and Sarah Peyton (Eagle River, Alaska).
Senior pitcher Corinne Baita (Rochester, N.H.) was tagged with the loss for Norwich, giving up seven earned runs on nine hits while walking three and striking out three.
In Game 1, Albertus Magnus scored seven runs in the bottom of the first and tacked on six more in the bottom of the third to cruise to the 14-3 win after five innings. Norwich mustered just four hits in the opener with Morris, Rome, Day and Angie Hershberger (Felton, Calif.) each reaching on hits.
Morris was saddled with the loss on the mound after giving up 12 earned runs on 10 hits, five walks and struck out two.
Norwich will look to get back on track when it travels to Lasell on Wednesday for another GNAC doubleheader.
