Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. - The Norwich University women's hockey team put the finishing touches on an unbeaten Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East season with a 3-1 win over Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon.
Junior defenseman Taylor Cross (Saugus, Mass.) continued her big weekend, scoring twice to lead the Cadets (18-4-3, 15-0-2 ECAC East) to the victory. Senior forward Kaycie Anderson (Maple Plain, Minn.) scored as well to round out the Norwich offensive leaders.
After falling behind 1-0 on a late first-period goal by Lauren Abbenante, the Cadets came marching back with three straight unaswered goals to secure the unbeaten league mark and extend the Cadets' streak to 33 straight games without a loss against ECAC East opponents in the regular season.
Cross scored at the 13:18 mark of the second period to knot the game at 1-1 off assists from Erin Joyce (Manchester, N.H.) and Madyson Moore (Dubuque, Iowa).
Cross scored again at the 9:14 mark off the third off an assist from Maki Shuchuk (Madison, Wis.) to give Norwich its first lead of the game that it would never look back from.
Anderson added an empty-net goal in the final minute for her ninth goal of the year off an assist from Desirae Kuhlmann (Swift Current, Saskatchewan) to cap the scoring.
Norwich and Holy Cross finished with a dead even 19-19 shots on goal. Senior goalie Loren Carrier (Chandler, Ariz.) made 18 saves to improve to 5-2-1 on the season. Alexandra Stevenson made 16 saves in the loss for Holy Cross.
The Cadets had already clinched their fifth straight ECAC East regular season title coming into the day. NU earned the No. 1 seed for the ECAC East Tournament, which begins next Saturday, Feb. 28 with the quarterfinal round. Norwich will host a to be determined opponent at 3 p.m. at Kreitzberg Arena.
