AMHERST, Mass. - The Norwich University women's ice hockey team had its seven-game winning streak snapped with a 3-2 overtime loss to Amherst College on Wednesday night in non-conference action at Orr Rink.

Amherst senior captain Erin Martin scored 40 seconds into overtime to lift the Lord Jeffs to the victory.

After a scoreless first period, Amherst (5-0-0, 4-0-0 NESCAC) needed just 30 seconds to take a 1-0 lead with Katelyn Pantera scoring off an assist from Eileen Harris to put the Lord Jeffs up 1-0. Alex Toupal scored her team-leading seventh goal of the year at the 6:40 mark to give Amherst a 2-0 lead.

Norwich (7-3-0, 6-0-0 NEHC) cut into the lead at the 2:55 mark of the third period with freshman forward Bryn Labbe (Calgary, Alberta) scoring her fourth goal of the year off an assist from Sarah Schwenzfeier (Hingham, Mass.).

Schwenzfeier tied the game at 2-2 at the 17:16 mark of the third period with an unassisted tally for her sixth goal of the season.

Amherst outshot Norwich 47-21. Junior goalie Celeste Robert (Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec) made a career-high 44 saves in goal for the Cadets, but she fell to 4-2-0 on the year. Sabrina Dobbins made 19 saves for Amherst to improve to 5-0-0.

Wednesday's win marked Amherst's first win over Norwich since a 2-0 win at Orr Rink in 2011-12.

Norwich is off until Jan. 9 when it travels to Elmira College for another non-conference matchup vs. the Soaring Eagles. Elmira beat NU 7-2 earlier this season at the East-West Hockey Classic.
