Box Score NEWTON, Mass. - The Norwich University women's soccer team fell to Lasell College 11-2 on Thursday afternon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Taylor Field.
Lasell junior Megan Cullen scored a hat trick to lead the defending GNAC champion Lasers (5-3-1, 4-0-0 GNAC) to the victory.
Norwich (2-6-1, 0-3-1 GNAC) had goals from Ariana Lacombe (Groton, Mass.) and Julianne Muse (Wakefield, Mass.), but it wasn't enough as Lasell raced out to a 7-0 lead by halftime.
Freshman Jordan Kacur (Red Creek, N.Y.) took the ball down the left field flank and sent a shot in that was stopped by Lasell freshman goalkeeper Macie Sicard. However, Lacombe was there for the rebound, and placed the ball in the left side of the net to put Norwich on the board with her second goal of the season.
With six minutes left in regulation, the Cadets struck again as senior Muse set herself up for a breakaway situation, and took two quick touches past Sicard for her first goal of the season.
Lasell senior starter Sarah LaClair extended her record to 3-4 with the win, and recorded two saves in the game. Sicard took over for LaClair halfway through the first half, and stopped five of seven shots faced on net. Cadets' freshman Brooke Dewyea (Piercefield, N.Y.) drops to 2-2 overall and recorded seven saves before sophomore net minder Leandra Flores-Nieves (Colorado Springs, Colo.) entered the game in the second half and registered eight saves.
Norwich returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 4 when it hosts Emmanuel College at 2 p.m. on Howard Field as part of NU Homecoming Weekend 2015.
