Men's basketball falls to No. 13 Albertus Magnus, 89-72

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Three different members of the Norwich University men's basketball team scored in double-digits, but it was not enough as the Cadets fell 89-72 to No. 13 Albertus Magnus College on Thursday in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action.

With the loss, the Cadets fall to 1-3 in the league and 4-6 overall, while the win keeps the Falcons undefeated at 5-0 in the GNAC and 10-1 on the year.

Junior Gary Gladden (Boyton Beach, Fla.) and sophomore Kevin Ross (Ontario, Calif.) had impressive efforts for the Cadets with both players putting up 16 points apiece, while senior Evan Tullar (Chelsea, Vt.) contributed 14 points on the night.

Albertus Magnus had six players score in double-figures, led by Tavon Sledge with a game-high 18 points. Victor Ljuljdjuraj added a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds with four blocks as James Jennings contributed 14 points. Jaqhawn Walters and Lemar Larsen added 11 points with Julian Sanders pitching in 10 points on the night.

Norwich gave the Falcons a run for their money in the first half, staying in contention in the first nine minutes that saw four lead changes before both teams tied up the game for the second time at 20 points apiece at the 10:37 mark. Albertus Magnus began a 10-2 run in a span of just under four minutes to take a 32-22 lead before extending the lead to 16 with the score showing 46-32 at the break.

In the second half, the Falcons at one point lead by 22 points at the 13:06 mark as the Cadets struggled to find the basket, shooting 47.2 percent from the field in the frame as Albertus Magnus ran away with the 89-72 victory.

Albertus Magnus shot 56.7 percent from the floor and 38.1 percent from the three point range. Norwich shot 43.8 percent on the night, while the Falcons held a slight rebounding edge at 24-17.

The Cadets are back in action on Saturday, as they travel to Mount Ida for a 1:00 p.m. GNAC matchup.
