Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University women's soccer team dropped its second straight match with a 3-0 loss to Castleton State on Saturday night on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium.
Despite dominating the early possession, Norwich was unable to beat Castleton goalkeeper Jessica Binkowski, who made two saves to pick up her second victory of the season.
After playing to a scoreless tie for over 44 minutes, Castleton got the board with two seconds left to steal the momentum heading into halftime. Freshman midfielder Sarah Carlson blasted a free kick from 20-yards out as the seconds winded down that went over the Norwich wall and off the fingertips of NU sophomore goalkeeper Molly Miller (Raymond, Maine).
Castleton (2-2-0) kept the momentum up in the second half, scoring twice just 26 seconds apart midway through the half with a Norwich own goal deflecting off a defender and into the back of the net and then Carlson scoring her second goal of the game at the 66:21 mark to put the game away good.
Carlson sped around a Norwich defender and then slipped the ball past Miller as she came out to challenge after Carlson had the NU defense beat.
Castleton outshot Norwich 28-4. Miller made 12 saves for Norwich to fall to 1-2 on the season.Senior Alex Frank (Medford, N.J.) had two shots to lead Norwich.
Norwich (2-2-0) will look to get back on track when it travels to Albertus Magnus next Saturday, Sept. 13 to kick off its Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) schedule at 1 p.m.
