Box Score LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – The Norwich University women's volleyball team won its second straight match and third out of its last four with a 3-1 victory over Lyndon State on Tuesday night at Stannard Gymnasium.
Senior outside hitter Alex Palmer (South Windsor, Conn.) recorded a season-high 17 kills to lead Norwich to the victory. Palmer had a .300 hitting percentage to go along with eight digs and three solo blocks.
Norwich (6-8, 1-1 GNAC) took the first two sets by scores of 25-14 and 25-17, before Lyndon State rallied to game the third set 25-20. The Cadets closed out the match though in the fourth set with a 25-18 win.
Senior Kelsey Mancini (Lynnfield, Mass.), as well as juniors Tara Lyons (Pocassett, Mass.) and Angie Hershbeger (Felton, Calif.) had nine kills as well to round out Norwich's offensive leaders. Freshman Katherine Crane (Avon, N.Y.) totaled 31 assists for the Cadets.
Freshman Alma Turpin (Sterling, Va.) had seven kills and a team-high 16 digs to lead the defensive effort for Norwich.
Lyndon State (4-8) was led by seven kills apiece from Joy Piper and Abbey Greene.
Norwich will look to keep up the momentum this weekend when it hosts Anna Maria and MCLA in another tri-match at noon and 4 p.m. respectively at Andrews Hall Gym.
