Box Score PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Norwich University baseball team dropped a 4-1 non-conference decision to Plattsburgh State University Monday afternoon.
The Cadets struck first in the top of the second inning on a sacrifice fly from freshman LaShawn Thomas (San Antonio, Texas) that scored fellow freshman Travis Jaques (Peabody, Mass.) from third base and made it 1-0 Norwich.
The Cardinals knotted the game at 1-1 on a sacrifice fly of their own in the bottom of the inning as Johnathan Repetto flied out to right field scoring Luke Weaver.
Plattsburgh took the lead for good in the home half of the third on an RBI groundout from Chris Pescetti, giving the Cardinals a 2-1 edge.
Plattsburgh added RBI singles by John Casten and Brian Latulipe in the bottom of the sixth to close out the scoring.
Jacques led the Cadets offensively with two hits in four at-bats.
Sophomore Brian Whaley (St. Louis, Mo.) took the loss on the hill for Norwich after allowing four earned runs on seven hits and four walks in six innings of work. He struck out four batters.
Sophomore Kevin Gadowski (Chandler, Ariz.) tossed two innings of relief allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out two.
Joe Leddy threw a compete game for the Cardinals, allowing one earned run on five hits and four walks. He fanned six Cadet batters and improves to 4-1.
Norwich is next in action on Wednesday April 30th as they host Castleton State College for a non-conference doubleheader. The first game is set to start at 2:30 p.m.
