Box Score 2 BOSTON – The Norwich University softball split its third straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Roberto Clemente Field.
Norwich (14-12, 9-7 GNAC) won the opener 8-2, but then dropped the second game 10-1 in five innings after giving up nine runs in the first inning.
Senior first baseman Erin Clark (Newbury, Vt.) continued her recent offensive upswing with going 3-for-4 in Game 1 with four RBIs. Senior shortstop Abby Belcher (Winthrop, Mass.) went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and senior second baseman Melissa Rome (Enfield, Conn.) had three hits as well to lead the Cadets' offense.
Junior centerfielder Kelly Travers (Whitman, Mass.) and Justina George (Wallingford, Conn.) each added two hits as well for Norwich in the opener.
Junior pitcher Corinne Baita (Rochester, N.H.) picked up her 11th win of the season with a complete-game five hitter. She surrendered two earned runs and one walk while striking out seven to improve to 11-4 on the year.
Emmanuel senior shortstop Catherine Davis had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Saints' offense.
Emmanuel took control early in Game 2, scoring nine runs in the first inning en route to a 10-1 mercy-rule victory. Norwich managed just two hits in the second game with Belcher and Travers each reaching base off Emmanuel pitcher Jill Kilcoyne.
Davis, Samantha Adams and Susie Kieselback each had two hits to lead Emmanuel.
Norwich senior pitcher Kaylie Miller (Long Lake, N.Y.) took the loss going four innings with seven earned runs and 11 hits.
Norwich returns to action on Thursday when it hosts Anna Maria at 3 p.m. in its first home games of the season.
