Box Score JOHNSON, Vt.—Juniors Aliah Curry (Windsor, Mass.) and Kelsey Lotti (South Yarmouth, Mass.) combined for 46 points to lead the Norwich University women's basketball team to a 70-39 win against the Badgers of Johnson State College on Tuesday evening in non-conference action.
With the win, the Cadets improve to 12-10 overall, while the loss drops the Badgers to 7-14.
Curry totaled 26 points on 8-28 shooting from the floor (28.5 percent), including a 5-11 performance (45.4 percent) from three-point range. Lotti netted 20 points on a 5-12 effort from the floor (41.6 percent) with two three-pointers and a perfect 8-8 effort at the free-throw line. Both Curry and Lotti added six rebounds apiece.
Nine additional players scored for Norwich, led by sophomore Donovan Driscoll (Chelmsford, Mass.) with four points. Freshman Heather LeBlanc (Sanford, Maine) paced the Cadets on the boards with seven rebounds, while senior Kristin Brown (Williamstown, Vt.) dished out a game-high four assists.
The Badgers were led by Ashley Goddard with eight points and seven rebounds. Kirsten Rand scored six points and added a game-high 10 rebounds, while Eliannie Sola dished out a team-best three assists.
Norwich scored the first three points of the game on a trifecta of free-throws by Lotti 1:23 in the game and would never trail, building an 11-0 lead before the Badgers managed to get on the board on a free-throw at the 11:54 mark. Norwich continued to extend their lead, due in part to a 17.9 percent shooting from the floor by the Badgers, while shooting 35.7 percent on their own offensive end. Norwich would 36-17 at halftime.
The Badgers opened the second half with a 4-0 run, but Curry would respond by nailing back-to-back three-pointers. Johnson State totaled 22 points in the second half on 34.4 percent shooting from the floor, while the Cadets netted their 34 second-half points on a 31.4 percent effort from field goal range. Norwich's largest lead of the day came on the final basket of the game, a three-point shot by junior Kaitlyn McMullen (Northfield, Vt.).
The Cadets held advantages in points off turnovers (9-1) and second-chance points (11-8), but the Badgers edged the Cadets in points in the paint (15-8). Both teams received 19 points from their respective benches.
Norwich will return to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Saturday, Feb. 15 when they host Albertus Magnus for a 1:00 p.m. game. The Cadets will honor seniors Brown, Tylita Butler (Lexington Park, Md.) and Erin Clark (Newbury, Vt.) for their contributions to the program in a brief ceremony prior to tip-off.
