NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University women's ice hockey team picked up its first victory of the 2014-15 season with a 3-0 win over the Univ. of New England on Friday night at Kreitzberg Arena.

Norwich (1-1-1, 1-0-0 ECAC East) continued its ECAC East dominance stretching its win streak to 18 straight against league opponents.

The Cadets got goals from Madison Gallagher (Kirkland, Quebec), Nicolette Gosselin (Barre, Vt.), Nicole Goebel (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) and Madyson Moore (Dubuque, Iowa), while sophomore goalie Celeste Robert (Rouyn Noranda, Quebec) made 11 saves to pick up the shutout.

Gallagher scored her first of the season just under five minutes into the first period when she slipped a puck under UNE goalie Courtney Kendall off assists from Kaycie Anderson (Maple Plain, Minn.) and Moore.

Kendall made an initial save on Anderson shot in front of the net but the puck squirted out to the half boards as she scrambled to recover. Gallagher skated down to the puck and slid the puck along the ice, just underneath the outstretched leg of Kendall who was caught in an awkward position facing the net.

Norwich carried the 1-0 lead into the first intermission, outshooting a resilient UNE squad 11-7.

The Cadets added to their lead in the second frame with Gosselin scoring just past the midway point of the game off a scramble in front of the net. From her knees, Gosselin shoveled in her own rebound after Kendall made an initial save on her first shot from just below the right faceoff circle.

Norwich extended the lead to 3-0 with 34 seconds left in the period when Moore shoveled in a rebound on her backhand after Kendall stopped an initial shot from Anderson but couldn't control the puck. Freshman Sarah Schwenzfeier (Hingham, Mass.) picked up the second assist on the goal.

Moore nearly got her second of the night just under two minutes into the third period but Kendall made a sprawling glove save to rob the NU senior forward.

Goebel scored her first career goal for the Maroon & Gold at the 15:40 mark of the third period when she slid the puck under Kendall off an assist from Moore to make it 4-0.

Moore finished with a game-high three points for Norwich.

Kendall finished with 31 saves for UNE, who dropped to 1-1-0 on the year.

Norwich faces the Univ. of Southern Maine at 3 p.m. on Saturday in another ECAC East contest at Kreitzberg Arena.
