Box Score DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Norwich University women's basketball team earned its first win of the season after defeating the University of Maine at Presque Isle 78-50 Sunday afternoon.
With the win, Norwich is now 1-1 on the year while the Owls fall to 0-2 overall.
Senior guard Aliah Curry (Windsor, Mass.) scored a team-high 25 points, while sophomore forward Heather LeBlanc (Sanford, Maine) posted her first double-doubles of the season on 19 points and 14 rebounds. Senior guard Kelsey Lotti (South Yarmouth, Mass.) scored 13 points, two rebounds, and came up with three steals in the win.
Norwich opened the game with Lotti nailing the three before Presque Isle responded with a 9-0 run in a span of four minutes. The Cadets regrouped and charged back into the contest before a pair of threes by Lotti and Curry allowed Norwich to retake the 16-14 lead with 12:11 remaining in the half.
Norwich struggled to keep Presque Isle at bay, as the Owls rallied from a 10-point deficit to trail by one with 5:12 to play. As the half winded down, both teams would trade baskets several times before Norwich extended the lead on a trio of layups by LeBlanc followed by a pair of threes from Lotti and Curry to make it 41-36 at the break.
Norwich's game quickly improved on both ends of the court as the Cadets opened the second half with a 22-5 run in the first seven minutes of the stanza to make it a 63-43 game with 12:41 remaining. Presque Isle would look to rebound from the 20 point deficit but Norwich's defense was too much to handle as the Owls shot just 6-for-33 (18.2%) from the field, while the Cadets shot 15-for-35 (42.9) to pick up their first win of the season with the 78-50 victory.
As a team, Norwich shot 44.3 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from beyond the arc as the bench contributed 17 points on the day. The Cadets would score 20 points on second chances and 15 off of turnovers.
The Cadets will travel to New York on Wednesday, Nov. 19 as the Cadets take on Plattsburgh State for the 7 p.m. tip-off.
