Box Score PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Freshman Erin Joyce (Manchester, N.H.) scored a pair of goals Saturday afternoon to lead Norwich University women's hockey team to a 4-0 victory over Plymouth State University in an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East game at Hanaway Rink.
Plymouth State junior goalie Alyssa Altschuler made 27 saves for PSU as Norwich outshot the Panthers, 31-15. Senior Loren Carrier (Chandler, Ariz.) posted 15 saves for the Cadets for her first shutout of the season and the team's fourth straight.
Norwich (4-1-1, 4-0-0 ECAC East) remains unbeaten in the league while PSU slides to 1-4-1 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
The Cadets had an 11-3 shot advantage in the opening frame, but Joyce scored the only goal of the period, her third of the season at the 4:22 mark. Freshmen Kim Tiberi (Raleigh, N.C.) and Sarah Schwenzfeier (Hingham, Mass.) assisted on the goal.
Senior Kaycie Anderson (Maple Plain, Minn.) extended the Cadets' lead to 2-0 nine minutes into the second period, with an assist from freshman Muranda Toews (Grand Prairie, Alb.), and Joyce potted her second of the game and fourth of the season at the 15:19 mark.
Freshman Maki Shuchuk (Madison, Wis.) got into the scoring act for Norwich with an insurance goal three minutes into the third period, her second goal of the year.
Anderson moved to within five points of 100 career points in her career and she also extended her point streak to six straight games.
Both teams continue ECAC East conference action next Friday as PSU hosts Holy Cross at 6:00 p.m. at Hanaway Rink and Norwich visits Salve Regina University.
