HANOVER, N.H. – The Norwich University women's rugby team advanced to the USA Rugby Fall 15s presented by ACRA National Quarterfinals with a 100-22 win over UConn on Saturday morning at Dartmouth University.
Junior Ally Day (Gorham, Maine) led the Cadets with four tries, while Vanessa Champagne (Saint Nazaire, Quebec), Meaghan Albert (Lanesborough, Mass.) and Denisse Zambon (Bronx, N.Y.) each had two tries for Norwich as well.
Natalya Mendez (Cambridge, Mass.), Sarah Whalen (Windsor, Conn.), Riley Blankenship (Lyndonville, Vt.), Ilona Maher (Burlington, Vt.) and Sophie Mundell (Eagle River, Alaska) all added tries as well to round out the Cadets' offense leaders. Alanna Girardin (Worcester, Mass.) finished 10-for-16 on conversions.
Norwich will face American International College on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. in a rematch of last week's NWRC Championship. The Cadets won 48-29 and have never lost to AIC. The winner of tomorrow's quarterfinal matchup will earn a berth in the final four to be hosted down in Palm Coast, Fla. On Dec. 6 and 7.
